Blended Learning 2007 (part 1)

Last week I attended the Blended Learning conference at the University of Hertfordshire. Since then I’ve been missing and AFK (visiting family), and then a bit under the weather. So here is the much belated part 1 of the post conference thoughts and reflections… just an overview of the day itself.

Emerging technologies for learning

A new multi-authored report online from BECTA:

‘Emerging technologies for learning’ aims to help readers consider how emerging technologies may impact on education in the medium term. The publications are not intended to be a comprehensive review of educational technologies, but offer some highlights across the broad spectrum of developments and trends. It should open readers up to some of the possibilities that are developing and the potential for technology to transform our ways of working, learning and interacting over the next three to five years.

The different chapters each have a different author, with contributors including Marc Prensky and Stephen Downes. The page also includes last year’s report and a link to related discussion forums. As per usual, I haven’t managed read any of the chapters yet – but hope to do so soon-ish.

Massively Multi-Learner II

The workshop I ran back in March appeared to be a great success – and there was some very good feedback. I’m pleased to note that there will be a follow on workshop next year. Even more pleased that I won’t be organising it! Much as I enjoyed putting the program together, and even with the fantastic support given by all at the HEA, I’m glad to pass this on to Mike Hobbs at Anglia Ruskin.

So if you didn’t know before what you were doing 19th March 2008, maybe you do now!

Two Sloodle Presentations

Two Sloodle presentations… one past, one future.

First, the talk I gave recently at SJSU is now online. Link is on the front page of SJSU’s School of Library and Information Science school’s web site, here. All 57 minutes of it! You can also view the presentation in-world in Second Life… again, details on the SLIS webpage.

Next, I’ll be presenting next week at the Blended Learning Conference 2007 at the University of Hertfordshire. Quite an amazing program lined up – but with 5 or 6 things happening at once for most of the day, I’ll miss far more than I’ll be able to catch.
